Good evening readers,

It’s the end of week one, my word there’s a lot to cover… I have fully executed my time here week one. My main objective in any spare time whilst being on this program is to live and breath the culture of Vietnam.

Work has commenced in the teaching of the students. I cannot stress enough, how unbelievably successful each and every training session the students have had, has been. Of course we have the best hairdressers around the world teaching, although it’s fascinating that with only 2 translators the language barrier has not been a problem. Furthermore neither has the methodology for actually performing hairdressing services even though our methods are westernised.

I love this photo this is everyone who is around day to day! The only thing I find still a little crazy, is that the students think we are heroes! We everyday remind them that they are the heroes!

On the teaching side, it has been so rewarding! when you see a student understanding the technique of what your teaching them, and the smile on their face that they have learned something new… It’s worth it’s weight in gold!

So I was the first one up to do teaching. And I started the first demo teaching consultation,  I believe it is an extremely important part of the whole service. For non-hairdressers reading… A consultation is the important primary chat between client and stylist. To determine what’s going to be performed on the hair, and how and of course the clients wishes to have their hair. Now because this was effectively theory, asking questions and explaining. I had a translator next to me.

Can I please remind you that these young people have never even held a pair of scissors and by day 3 they had done 2 full haircuts! AMAZING RIGHT!

By day 5, just to give you an idea of the accomplishments we have achieved as a great Making Waves team. In one day We did; a full hair cut (box Bob),  full head tint application and blow dry. Followed by a mood board session!

Our mood board!

So to summarise, not only am I blown away at how quickly and passionately these students have adapted to westernised hairdressing (in Asia it’s ALOT different). Also how they have the trust and comfortablity with us as mentors. It’s all truly beautiful.
